Thandiwe Msebenzi completes her month-long residency at Orms Cape Town School of Photography
“I am an artist working in the medium of photography, my work began developing from a project called “oobhuti abathsa” which looked at the clothing Xhosa men wear when coming back from the mountain.
From there my work has developed to looking at symbols of masculinity which I incorporate in my current work. The work explores silently patriarchy looking at its tangible and intangible effects, on the female body. I use my body in many of the works capturing performative moments that seek to question and interrogate the existence of the female body in a patriarchy system.” – Msebenzi
