Oliver Schmitz 2017 South African Film & Television Award (Saftas) for Best Achievement in Directing for the feature film “Shepherds and Butchers”.

1982 graduate of Michaelis and multiple award winning director and screen writer Oliver Schmitz has won the 2017 Saftas in the category of Best Achievement in Directing for the film “Shepherds and Butchers”.

He also received the 2016 Woodstock Film Festival – Best Feature Narrative Award for the same film.  Schmitz is well known for “Mapantsula” made in 1988, an anti-apartheid feature film written with Thomas Mogotlane and directed by him, screened at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival.
