   Admission Requirements

The School has 65 places available for new students. Selection of applicants is based on a combination of your school leaving results and your portfolio.

Please note: no application will be considered without a portfolio!

If your school results are of a sufficient standard and your portfolio indicates that you have the potential to succeed in the degree programme you are likely to be offered a place. However, in order to avoid the disappointment of not being accepted into any area of study at UCT, you are strongly advised to include a second choice of study on your UCT application form.

In order not to prejudice applicants, the selection committee takes into consideration the fact that some applicants have done art at school while others have not. The committee also takes note of those who have registered for post school study, as well as those who come from disadvantaged academic backgrounds.

The initial selection of applicants will be done in the first week of November. The Faculty Office will be able to give an indication to applicants as to whether they have been given a conditional offer (pending school leaving results), or been put on a waiting list or have been refused a place. Those on the waiting list will be informed of their status as soon as their school leaving results become available. Thereafter we keep a short waiting list for places that may become available.
